At Friends Organisation for Rural Development Society, we recognize agriculture as the backbone of rural livelihoods. Our Agriculture & Livelihood Program is dedicated to uplifting farmers and landless laborers by promoting sustainable farming practices and diverse income-generating opportunities that enhance economic resilience and self-reliance.
We work closely with farming communities to provide hands-on training, technical support, and access to essential resources. Our approach is holistic—addressing traditional challenges while introducing innovative methods tailored to the unique needs of local farmers and rural families.
1)Training in Sustainable Agriculture:We offer practical training on eco-friendly and sustainable farming techniques, modern irrigation methods, crop rotation, organic farming, and soil health management to improve productivity and conserve resources.
2)Horticulture & Handloom Development:By promoting horticulture and traditional handloom industries, we help rural families diversify their income sources while preserving cultural heritage. Support is extended in the form of tools, seeds, and training in value-added production.
3)Dairy and Veterinary Support:Our veterinary outreach programs and dairy farming training empower small-scale farmers to enhance milk production, improve livestock health, and generate steady income through allied animal husbandry activities.
4)Micro-Credit and Self-Employment:We facilitate the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and connect them with micro-financing opportunities, enabling rural entrepreneurs—especially women—to launch small businesses in agriculture and related fields.
5)Income Generation Programs:Custom-tailored programs are conducted to equip community members with skills and resources needed for supplementary livelihoods, such as poultry farming, food processing, and rural enterprise development.
We aim to strengthen rural farming communities by introducing modern agricultural techniques and improving irrigation systems. This includes educating farmers about sustainable farming practices, crop diversification, organic farming methods, and the efficient use of water resources. We assist in building check dams, rainwater harvesting systems, and affordable drip irrigation setups to ensure year-round cultivation and increased crop yield.
Our programs support rural artisans and farmers engaged in handloom weaving, silk production, and horticulture. We provide training in advanced weaving techniques, access to raw materials, design development, and marketing opportunities. For sericulture and horticulture, we supply quality seeds, plants, and guidance on pest management and post-harvest practices to help them increase income and preserve traditional livelihoods.
We promote the formation and nurturing of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), especially among rural women, to enable financial independence and community-based micro-enterprise development. Through micro-credit facilities, we provide easy access to small loans for starting businesses, purchasing livestock, or investing in agricultural tools. These initiatives help build savings habits, mutual support systems, and financial literacy among the rural poor.
Animal husbandry is a crucial part of rural livelihoods. We organize veterinary health camps and provide essential services such as vaccination, deworming, and nutritional guidance. Training is also offered in dairy management, cattle rearing, and milk production techniques. By supporting dairy farmers, we help create a reliable source of income and improve the nutritional intake of rural families.
We implement customized income-generating activities based on the local resources and skills of rural communities. This includes support for ventures like poultry farming, food processing, soap and candle making, tailoring, and kitchen gardening. Our goal is to ensure that every individual, especially women and marginalized groups, can access opportunities to become economically self-sufficient.
